HOW WE STARTED

Epic Airway Systems History

It was 2000 when Dr. Eric Moses was introduced to Dr. Sridhar Musuku, Anesthesiologist. He and his Physician wife Dr. Cherukupalli had created the next generation of low-tech airway devices to facilitate patient management in the operating room.  His immediate reaction was “why didn’t I think of this!”  Also, it was clear that it would eventually work and be widely accepted and utilized.  He came on board to help develop Epic Airway and bring it to market.

In 2001 Epic Airway Systems was born. With the help of several contract engineers and our manufacturing partner, multiple iterations were designed and produced.  Fifteen prototypes later, Epic Airway is manufacturable and functionable for an acceptable price point.

After participation in the National Safety Foundation Innovation Corps program, through customer discovery it was established that pre-hospital tracheal intubation skill sets are deteriorating, and procedure success rate is falling.  To address this life-threatening situation, Epic Airway development will make intubation simpler and faster, in a low-tech manner.  This is a paradigm shift in airway management.

Wasted time, medication and extra stress in the operating room inspired the development of Epic Airway.  Finding the application in the pre-hospital, emergency setting brought the mission of successfully developing Epic Airway to a new level of urgency, as paramedics and military personnel are struggling for a solution.
